Rostelecom compromised traffic for CDNs through the BGP hijacking
In the beginning of April Rostelecom, the major Russian state-owned telecom operator was caught in a BGP hijack incident. Internet traffic meant for the major content delivery networks (CDNs), and cloud providers – Google, Amazon, Facebook, Akamai, Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Digital Ocean – was redirected through Rostelecom AS12389 servers for about an hour. Some experts think this was an accidental error that exposed the incorrect BGP routes on the public internet rather than Rostelecom’s internal network.
