Russia successfully ‘disconnected’ from the Internet
The Russian government has announced that it has successfully disconnected the country from the worldwide Internet following a series of tests. The news report stated that the tests that ended on 23 December, involved government agencies, local Internet service providers (ISPs) and Russian Internet businesses.
The main goal of the exercise according to the report was to test if the country’s national Internet infrastructure also known as RuNet could work outside the global domain name system (DNS) and the external Internet.
Whereas the report did not give details of the tests, it states that the government tested several disconnection scenarios, including a scenario that simulated a cyber-attack from a foreign country.
