Sensitive personal data of million US citizens leaked
A database with personal information of almost 200 million US citizens was found publicly accessible on an Amazon cloud server, available to anyone with a link to it. The file with birthdates, home addresses, telephone numbers, religious affiliations, ethnicities and political views of nearly 62% of US citizens was posted online in January by a marketing firm Deep Root Analytics contracted by the Republican National Committee, BBC reports. Deep Root Analytics taken over the responsibility for the leak and confirmed it has updated the access settings to prevent such an event happen again, Gizmodo reports. Privacy International warned that collecting such piles of intimate information and predictions about people’s behaviour, opinions and beliefs is troubling.
