Sudan joins UN Better Than Cash Alliance
Sudan has joined the UN Better Than Cash Alliance, a partnership that promotes transparency in financial systems through the use of non-cash systems. The country will adopt digital payments and will begin sending cash transfers to families in need (via mobile money) in a bid to spur economic activity, while additionally eliminating fraud. Sudan is rejoining the global finance system after many years of sanctions. It is still listed by the USA as a nation that funds terrorism.
