Telefonica Deutschland picks Ericsson for 5G core network

Telefonica Deutschland joins Germany’s three main operators in distancing from use of Huawei’s equipment in their network cores. Instead, Telefonica Deutschland will utilise Swedish telecom provider Ericsson for the 5G core mobile network and leverage Huawei’s equipment for the peripheral radio access networks carrying 5G traffic that are less sensitive. Telefonica Deutschland will construct a full cloud compatible 5G core network equipping it to manage growing data volumes and facilitate key 5G features such as network slicing and edge computing.
