Terrorists used unencrypted SMS, gaming and Dark Net for communications and acquiring weapons for Paris attacks
As the investigation about the attacks in Paris evolve, it becomes clear that the terrorists used SMS and Internet services were used by for internal communications and acquiring weapons, in spite of increased online surveillance by some states. The unencrypted SMS channels appear to be used for coordination of the Paris attacks. Besides, the chat features within popular gaming applications such as the PlayStation or XBox were used for hidden communications, since these protocols are proprietary and specifically encrypted. The terrorists have also used the Dark Net – a hidden and dominantly cybercrime-oriented part of the Web – not only for communication but also for acquiring weapons.
