Togo to set up a data protection agency and roll out digital ID
Togo will implement a decree that establishes a Personal Data Protection Authority (IPDCP). The IPDPC will be charged with overseeing that the processing of personal data by public and private agencies adheres with privacy and data protection law principles. At the same time, Cina Lawson, Togo’s Minister of Digital Economy and Digital Transformation has stated that the government plans to issue digital IDs to all Togo citizens and residents in 2021. This is in line with the country’s Digital Transformation Plan 2025.
