UK National Crime Agency infiltrates criminal marketplace
The UK National Crime Agency created fake websites offering services for cybercriminals to carry out attacks in order to infiltrate the criminal marketplace and gather data on those involved, revealing thousands have interacted with these sites.
The UK National Crime Agency (NCA) admitted that it set up several websites claiming to provide DDoS-for-hire services to infiltrate the cybercriminal market. Essentially, the NCA-run sites offer tools and services enabling cybercriminals to execute DDoS attacks.
Once cybercriminals register, their data is collected by investigators. Investigations show that several thousand people have reached the NCA-run sites.
