UK offers funding for improving IoT security
The UK government offers a £400 000 funding for developers to design new assurance schemes with improved security for Internet of things (IoT) devices. Assurance schemes validate that a device has been tested independently or passed successfully a self-assessment process in line with the government’s code of practice. This move will enable: (a) manufacturers to choose from a variety of schemes to demonstrate the security of their product, (b) retailers to ensure they are selling secure devices, (c) customers to make informed purchasing decisions. This funding opportunity follows the government’s intent to legislate minimum security requirements for IoT devices.
