UNICEF calls for more cooperation to protect children online.
On the occasion of Safer Internet Day, UNICEF called for renewed urgency and cooperation among governments, civil society, UN agencies and, the private sector, to put children at the centre of digital policy, and to protect them from sexual exploitation, cyberbullying and the misuse of their private information. Every half a second, every day, a child goes online for the first time. They tap into the opportunities the Internet has to offer, but also face numerous risks. UNICEF called on stakeholders to coordinate global, regional and national responses, and empower children online through more equitable access and digital literacy.
