US and Kenya strengthen cybersecurity ties

The third US-Kenya Cyber and Digital Dialogue took place in Nairobi, where officials from both nations, led by Ambassador Nathaniel C. Fick and Mr Thomas Sakah, discussed key cybersecurity issues. The dialogue focused on capacity development, implementing the Framework for Responsible State Behavior in Cyberspace, combatting cybercrime, securing information technology infrastructure, and promoting digital freedom. Both parties committed to leveraging the U.S.-Kenya partnership to enhance cyberspace security and achieve Kenya’s digital economy goals.
Why does it matter?
Kenya and the US have maintained a continuous collaboration on digital issues. In December of the previous year, Kenya actively participated with other African nations in a cyber exercise designed to enhance knowledge in containment, eradication, intelligence collection, and incident detection. It is worth highlighting that Kenya has been identified as a target in a global campaign led by the US and the European Union, aiming to curtail the influence of Chinese telecom in the global technology landscape.
