US NCCoE publishes a white paper for public consultation about IoT device network-layer onboarding
The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) project issues a draft white paper for public consultation titled Trusted internet of things (IoT) device network-layer onboarding and lifecycle management: Enhancing internet protocol-based IoT device and network security. The paper provides background information on trusted IoT device network-layer onboarding and lifecycle management. The paper also defines a taxonomy of onboarding characteristics that can be used to discuss potential onboarding solutions. The paper is part of the NCCoE ongoing project that focuses on approaches to trusted network-layer onboarding of IoT devices and lifecycle management of the devices. The project aims to build a trusted network-layer onboarding solution example using available technology that will address cybersecurity challenges, and it will result in a NIST Cybersecurity Practice Guide. The deadline for public comment is April 19, 2021
