USA bans government use of commercial spyware
President Biden signed an Executive Order (EO) that bans US executive departments and agencies from using commercial spyware in order to protect national security and human rights.
President Biden signed an Executive Order (EO) that bans the commercial use of spyware by the US Government. The protection of national security as well as the prevention of potential misuse by foreign actors to abuse human rights, are the reasons for the establishment of the policy. Namely, the EO probits executive department and agencies to use commercial spyware ‘that poses significant counterintelligence or security risks to the United States Government or that the commercial spyware poses significant risks of improper use by a foreign government or foreign person.’
