USB Type-C to become the standard for all small devices in the EU
The EU has agreed to make USB Type-C the standard charging port for small devices by 2024, including mobile phones, tablets, and headphones. Laptops will need to comply by 2026.
The European Parliament and the EU member states have reached a political agreement on the Commission’s proposal on a standard charging solution adopted in September 2021. By autumn 2024, mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, earbuds, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld videogame consoles and portable speakers that are rechargeable via a wired cable will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C port, regardless of their manufacturer. The deadline for laptops is 2026.
