WEEE Forum calls for action to differentiate e-waste from metal scrap
The Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Forum published a paper that addresses issues associated with e-waste being treated as metal scrap. It also calls on the competent authorities to: (a) prohibit the practice of purchasing and processing metal scrap that contains WEEE; (b) develop enforcement actions and penalise facilities that treat WEEE as metal scrap; (c) establish reliable data collection procedures for estimating WEEE in scrap; (d) ensure WEEE following these routes is appropriately treated and monitored.
