Google and French publishers reach an agreement on payments for news re-use
L’Alliance de la Presse d’Information Générale (APIG), which represents the interests of around 300 political and general information press titles in France, announced an agreement with Google on payments for the reuse of press publication content online. The agreement sets out terms of negotiations of APIG members with Google and is the first of its kind.
Google had previously avoided paying French publishers for the reuse of snippets of contents in its news search and aggregation, and has been ordered by the French competition authority to pay for the snippets.
