Safer Internet Day: Reports on cyberbullying and social media age limits
Safer Internet Day has seen the publication of several reports. Apart from Eurostat’s report released yesterday, Childnet and the UK Safer Internet Centre released a report on cyberbullying, which concludes that 24% of teenagers have been the targeted by hateful content for their ‘gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability or transgender identity.’ Teenagers with disabilities or minority ethnic backgrounds were targeted most often. Furthermore, a survey of BBC Newsround suggests that more than three-quarters of 10- to 12-year old children have social media accounts, even though the have not yet reached the age limit.
